The vestiges of the past

Castles by the thousand, caves by the dozen

Dubbed the region of 1001 castles, the Périgord Noir is the perfect destination for chivalrous adventures as a family. Set out to conquer one of the 42 fortified castles open to the public. To make the visit more attractive, numerous educational tours are organised throughout the entire year. At the Bridoire castle, you can try on medieval armour, and even test your accuracy skills on one of the wooden games in the gardens.

This route of around 20 kilometres, which starts near the Slow Village Périgord campsite, can equally be covered on foot or by bicycle. Laid out on former traffic routes, such as towpaths, this greenway path is set aside for cyclists and pedestrians and completely safe.
